Nars Sheer Glow review

For the past few months I’ve not been too happy with my current foundations so I decided I would venture into the world of high end foundation. This choice was obviously not an easy one to make due to there being so many and each at a hefty price tag.

I had narrowed it down to either Nars Sheer Glow or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser after reading tones of blog posts and videos on them. I took myself into Space NK after work one evening as it’s a goldmine for make-up which isn’t so easy to get hold of. The lovely make-up assistant took everything off of my face and made me over with all Laura Mercier products. Unfortunately I had to shower when I got home so I couldn’t test out how long it would of lasted but I liked the finish. A compact foundation cream was used on me which I wasn’t keen on myself as I’m a liquid foundation kind of girl so I narrowed it down to the liquid version of it.

After evening after work I decided try some swatches of Nars Sheer Glow as that seems to be the holy grail for all bloggers and Youtubers so I figured I couldn’t go wrong- but jeeze I did.

Nars Sheer Glow foundation– Fiji

My first impression was that it was very small for the big price tag and a pump was not included which makes it hard to control the amount you want to use. I opted out of buying a pump as I travel a lot therefore it would get messy and waste liquid when switching from lid to pump as the lid and pump are not compatible with eachother. The packaging is nice although once you use it once it gets dirty from make-up very easily.

I poured a small amount on the back of my hand and then applied it to my face using a Real Technique brush. The colour was quite scary when I first put it to my face although it blended nicely once I got started, although the coverage was not fantastic- definitely would have to be built up to achieve a flawless look.

After using it for the first time I noticed my skin had got really bad and I broke out in places I have never before. I didn’t know if it was my hormones so I gave it a few days for my face to clear up before I used it next, but the same happened the day after. I’m very good with my make-up at night as I always take it off and cleanse my face and I made no exception when I was wearing this.

Another horrible thing was that after a few hours of wearing it my face felt disguising and I couldn’t wait to take it off- again, something that has never really been an issue with any other foundation before. It also made my skin very oily and I was forced to wear powder or I would look majorly shiny.

I really don’t want to put anyone off this product as everyone’s skin reacts differently to different things but it personally really let me down and it’s been difficult to get my skin back to it’s previous state. I would recommend getting a tester of this (if you can) or getting your face done professionally in it at Space NK to see how it reacts on your skin.

I’m now back on the hunt for a foundation- Laura Mercier potentially?

Thats so strange about your experience with this! I absolutely love this foundation, its been my standby for the past four years. So sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you. If you’re looking for something with more coverage from Laura Mercier, and you don’t have oily skin I really recommend the Silk Creme, it’s a beautiful satin finish with medium-full coverage, but it has a limited color range. I hope this helps!
    Ps. New Post!

I know it’s such a shame, everyone I know who uses it loves it! Ah, may have to take a look at that!! x

Oh, that’s such a shame! Sucks you had to pay so much money for it also! 🙁
